From Our Founder

A story rooted in family & gold.

Growing up I always loved expressing myself through jewelry, especially earrings. My wonderful great grandmother Anne was my biggest encourager — she always praised my fashionable sense and made me feel beautiful.

On November 9th, 1979 my great uncle bought Anne a 14k Solid Gold Black Coral Necklace from Honolulu, Hawaii. After Anne passed, he gave that necklace to me as a way to keep her memory alive. It was right around that time that I started Kate Gates Jewelry.

Anne's necklace gave me the confidence to begin this journey and helped me stay true to what matters most — creating beautiful, dainty gold filled jewelry that every woman can wear every day without worry. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, contact dermatitis from jewelry affects millions of women — many of whom have simply given up on wearing jewelry altogether. I started Kate Gates to change that.
